PINK contemporary impressionistic fine art painting

Pink Blossoms
giclee on acrylic
contact;
www.bsyatesart.com

Oh so ready for spring;
Pink Blossoms is bright and cheery limited edition print on acrylic.
Hang against a light wall or in the window to create a stained glass look.

PINK
Brighter pinks are youthful, fun, and exciting, while vibrant pinks have the same high energy as red; they are sensual and passionate without being too aggressive. Toning down the passion of red with the purity of white results in the softer pinks that are associated with romance and the blush of a young woman's cheeks. It's not surprising that when giving or receiving flowers, pink blossoms are a favorite. Pink is the color of happiness and is sometimes seen as lighthearted. For women who are often overworked and overburdened, an attraction to pink may speak of a desire for the more carefree days of childhood.

How the color pink affects us physically

  • Bright pinks, like the color red, stimulate energy and can increase the blood pressure, respiration, heartbeat, and pulse rate. They also encourage action and confidence.

  • Pink has been used in prison holding cells to effectively reduce erratic behavior. (ask.com)

Abstract expressionistic fine art painting

White Study on Blue20x20 sold

This piece was just sold to an art collector in NY,
THANKS!

The Color White
White projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Doctors don white coats, brides traditionally wear white gowns, and a white picket fence surrounds a safe and happy home.

How the color white affects us physically

  • Aids mental clarity
  • Encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles
  • Evokes purification of thoughts or actions
  • Enables fresh beginnings

Abstract expressionistic fine art painting

Winter Blues 20 x 24 acrylic
I get the blues in the winter, do you?
This painting is my interpretation of
Color Field Painting;

What Are the Key Characteristic of Color Field Painting?

Bright, local colors are presented in specific shapes that can be amorphous or geometrical, but not too straight-edged.
The works emphasize the flatness of the canvas or paper, because that is what a painting is literally about.
The excitement comes from the tension set up between the colors and shapes. That is the subject of the work.
The integration of shapes through overlapping or interpenetration's blurs spacial distinctions, so that there is almost no sense of the image versus the background (what art historians call "figure and ground"). Sometimes the shapes seem to both emerge and submerge into the surrounding colors.

Abstract expressionistic fine art painting

Falling Up
acrylic/oil
Another in my new movement art series.
Truly a painting  frenzy and the best part of my day.
I love to finish and start my day in the  studio.
I find it very zen, tactile, physical and non rational.
A sense of freedom;
"Kandinsky believed that colors provoke emotions. Red was lively and confident; Green was peaceful with inner strength; Blue was deep and supernatural; Yellow could be warm, exciting, disturbing or totally bonkers; and White seemed silent but full of possibilities. He also assigned instrument tones to go with each color: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a middle-position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody." Abstract contemporary art

Broken and Blue 20x24
Resolution 20x20

Twice I have subconsciously created "hearts" from
my abstract expressionistic method. This was created with thick
juicy texture and movement.
Quote; " I don't paint with ideas of art in mind. I see something that
excites me. It becomes my content." (1968 De Kooning)
I love this quote and understand it's meaning.
What does it mean to you?

Abstract expressionistic art

Static 20x24
To continue my series on what is abstract; I took techniques used by my mentors,
Pollock, De Kooning, Mitchell and with movement I spilled, spluttered, smeared and
brushed to create these paintings.
"I eliminated composition, arrangement, relationship, and light - all
this silly talk about line, color and form." (De Kooning)
I find I still look for composition, color, line, when painting abstract.....
How do you approach abstract art?

Abstract Expressionistic Art

Fragment 18x24
Another in my abstract series.
Last blog I wrote about Pollock and de Kooning. While reading about these two incredible artist,
I came across Joan Mitchell. Way cool work! She hung out with de Kooning
and other artists in the 60's, 70's and 80's. She used movement to paint large
canvases.I would have liked to have
known her, so I will research more and paint....
stay tuned for more:)

de Kooning or Pollock ?

"I never was interested in how to make a good painting.. But to see how far one can go".
 (Willem de Kooning)
He was called "master of the gesture".
In keeping with my challenge I created Confetti.
A combination of gestures and movement.
What do you think; Pollock or de Kooning?

Abstract expressionistic art

Broken and Blue 20x20
acrylic on canvas
My goal over the next few weeks is to take the many definitions of "Abstract art",
and do my interpretation. Here is my first one titled Broken & Blue. Maybe even
emulating the famous artist listed below. I started with a plain white canvas on the
easel and applied paint with my knife. As I continued over the next several
hours and days my paint was scraped, blended, scrubbed and dripped.
I had to move around my canvas while on the floor on on the easel.

(noun) - Action Painting emphasizes the process of making art, often through a variety of techniques that include dripping, dabbing, smearing, and even flinging paint on to the surface of the canvas. These energetic techniques depend on broad gestures directed by the artist's sense of control interacting with chance or random occurrences. For this reason, Action Painting is also referred to as Gestural Abstraction. The artists and the various techniques are associated with the movement Abstract Expressionism and The New York School of the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s (for example, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline). about.com

Contemporary Abstract Painting

Red Feather 20x30
Abstract expressionistic acrylic on canvas.
Layers of translucent color was applied through movement.
Sometimes I put my canvas on the easel or on the floor. I like to move around and
over my canvas to create.

Abstract Contemporary Fine Art

White Study on Red 18x24
What I love about creating an abstract painting, is the sense of freedom and abandonment.
The process is tactile,  physical, but non rational.
"Abstract  artist do not comply with any art rules". (about .com)
Abstract paintings have characteristics of messiness, extreme energetic application,
and brush strokes that seem to reveal the process.
I personally love Jackson Pollock's approach;
dripping, smearing, slathering  and flinging.
(stay tuned for my next Abstract blog)

ABSTRACT CONTEMPORARY FINE ART

White Study on Blue 20x20
ABSTRACT, what exactly is the definition of abstract in art?
Good question, my favorite definition comes from "About.com":
ABSTRACT, the creative process becomes the art itself.
"The work of art becomes an event"(Harold Rosenberg).
And for this reason it can be called "action art".
I know when I create/paint I need to move around my canvas.
From this movement shapes form.
Stay tuned for more on the definition of Abstract Art.
