| Along the Creek 24x30 Blue is the overwhelming "favorite color." Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed. The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming. However, not all blues are serene and sedate. Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic -- an engaging color that expresses exhilaration. Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring. Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes a mystical borderland of wisdom, self-mastery, and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought, profound insights, and instant understandings. Blue is the least "gender specific" color, having equal appeal to both men and women.(about.com) www.bsyatesart.com |

| Winter Blues 20 x 24 acrylic I get the blues in the winter, do you? This painting is my interpretation of Color Field Painting; What Are the Key Characteristic of Color Field Painting?Bright, local colors are presented in specific shapes that can be amorphous or geometrical, but not too straight-edged.The works emphasize the flatness of the canvas or paper, because that is what a painting is literally about. The excitement comes from the tension set up between the colors and shapes. That is the subject of the work. The integration of shapes through overlapping or interpenetration's blurs spacial distinctions, so that there is almost no sense of the image versus the background (what art historians call "figure and ground"). Sometimes the shapes seem to both emerge and submerge into the surrounding colors. www.bsyatesart.com www.bsyatesartist.blogspot.com |

| Aspen's Nocturnal Another in my "aspen" series. This was created with layer on layer of vivid color, texture and depth. "Impressionistic artist tasted the world through their eyes. The new painting was all about the thrill and delight of the visual sensation, which means becoming intimately involved with the sensation of light or 'painting the light' (you can see how far a field we have come when Thomas Kinkade uses the same phrase). It is about painting directly from nature and expressing the rush of your visual (as opposed to ideational) sensation on the canvas in such a way that the activity itself is the point, not the painting!"
