Sunflowers & Poppies 30x40 acrylic/oil www.bsyatesart.com The color yellow; Yellow is sunshine. It is a warm color that, like red, has conflicting symbolism. On the one hand it denotes happiness and joy but on the other hand yellow is the color of cowardice and deceit.

White Study on Blue20x20 sold
This piece was just sold to an art collector in NY,
THANKS!
The Color White
White projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Doctors don white coats, brides traditionally wear white gowns, and a white picket fence surrounds a safe and happy home.
How the color white affects us physically
- Aids mental clarity
- Encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles
- Evokes purification of thoughts or actions
- Enables fresh beginnings

Along the Creek 24x30 Blue is the overwhelming "favorite color." Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed. The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming. However, not all blues are serene and sedate. Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic -- an engaging color that expresses exhilaration. Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring. Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes a mystical borderland of wisdom, self-mastery, and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought, profound insights, and instant understandings. Blue is the least "gender specific" color, having equal appeal to both men and women.(about.com) www.bsyatesart.com

Resolution 20x20 Twice I have subconsciously created "hearts" from my abstract expressionistic method. This was created with thick juicy texture and movement. Quote; " I don't paint with ideas of art in mind. I see something that excites me. It becomes my content." (1968 De Kooning) I love this quote and understand it's meaning. What does it mean to you? for more of my abstract expressionistic art; www.bsyatesart.com

Static 20x24 To continue my series on what is abstract; I took techniques used by my mentors, Pollock, De Kooning, Mitchell and with movement I spilled, spluttered, smeared and brushed to create these paintings. "I eliminated composition, arrangement, relationship, and light - all this silly talk about line, color and form." (De Kooning) I find I still look for composition, color, line, when painting abstract..... How do you approach abstract art? www.bsyatesart.com

"I never was interested in how to make a good painting.. But to see how far one can go". (Willem de Kooning) He was called "master of the gesture". In keeping with my challenge I created Confetti. A combination of gestures and movement. What do you think; Pollock or de Kooning? to see more; www.bsyatesart.com

Broken and Blue 20x20 acrylic on canvas My goal over the next few weeks is to take the many definitions of "Abstract art", and do my interpretation. Here is my first one titled Broken & Blue. Maybe even emulating the famous artist listed below. I started with a plain white canvas on the easel and applied paint with my knife. As I continued over the next several hours and days my paint was scraped, blended, scrubbed and dripped. I had to move around my canvas while on the floor on on the easel. www.bsyatesart.com www.bsyatesartist.blogspot.com (noun) - Action Painting emphasizes the process of making art, often through a variety of techniques that include dripping, dabbing, smearing, and even flinging paint on to the surface of the canvas. These energetic techniques depend on broad gestures directed by the artist's sense of control interacting with chance or random occurrences. For this reason, Action Painting is also referred to as Gestural Abstraction. The artists and the various techniques are associated with the movement Abstract Expressionism and The New York School of the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s (for example, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline). about.com

White Study on Red 18x24 What I love about creating an abstract painting, is the sense of freedom and abandonment. The process is tactile, physical, but non rational. "Abstract artist do not comply with any art rules". (about .com) Abstract paintings have characteristics of messiness, extreme energetic application, and brush strokes that seem to reveal the process. I personally love Jackson Pollock's approach; dripping, smearing, slathering and flinging. (stay tuned for my next Abstract blog) To see more of my Abstract paintings; www.bsyatesart.com
